SyFy’s made-for-TV remake of the Stephen King classic Children of the Corn is essentially what one would expect for a remake. Remakes are typically frowned upon, and TV movies aren’t much different. Combining the two sounds like a sure fire failure, right? Well yes, but not totally in this case. While the movie certainly feels like a TV movie, it had some decent effects and psychologically charged sequences. I was a little disappointed there wasn’t much scariness though. There was also one scene in particular that I felt the film could have certainly done without. Overall, not a completely failed attempt and a good adherence to the story, but it lacked likable characters and the scare factor. Worth a good watch for fans of Mr. King, but possibly not for hardcore horror fans.
