Review date: 20-Oct-2009

Fear not, the October all-horror reviews will continue through this month. I just thought I’d put together this quick list for fun. If I end up watching any other great horror flicks I’ll add them to the end of the list as honorable mentions! Click here for the video!

Note that some of the movies on this list were made in earlier years, however this list includes those that had a DVD release date of 2009 as well.

1. Zombieland

What can I say, this movie had it all for me: comedy, zombies, horror, some serious moments, and a great cast to top it off. Not only my favorite horror movie of this year but also my favorite movie so far of 2009. Read my full review of Zombieland.

2. Drag Me to Hell

To be honest I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this when I first saw the trailer, it didn’t impress me and I wasn’t sure about the lead actress. After watching I was blown away, it was dark, funny, disgusting and creepy all at the same time. One of the best horror films to come out in recent years. Read my brief review of Drag Me to Hell.

3. Dead Snow

I love zombie movies and this one is one of my favorites. The whole concept of the snow and the Nazi zombies was original and interesting. It provided tons of comedy and gore; really a great zombie picture. Read my full review of Dead Snow.

4. Trick ‘r Treat

Fans call it the best Halloween movie in recent history, and I can’t help but agree. Although I felt the stories could have been a little stronger, the movie was a lot of fun and had a great atmosphere to it. Read my full review of Trick ‘r Treat.

5. Antichrist

Though not a typical horror movie, it provided enough nightmarish and disturbing images to be considered one. My favorite thing about this film was the cinematography and the acting performances, it was truly stunning. Read my full review of Antichrist.
