2012 (2009)

Doomsday aficionado Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow; Independence Day) explodes the screen with 2012, the action-packed thriller based on the lore of end of the world predictions. While this is a subject I’ve found interesting for some time, I really wasn’t supportive of a big budget film on the topic as I know it’s bound to to spur more myths and misinformation. All conspiracy theories aside, the movie was indeed a great science fiction thriller. It’s full of superb visual effects and heart pounding action sequences that make for an excellent movie experience. The acting is decent, and star John Cusack delivered as usual. The standout for me was Woody Harrelson as a crazy conspiracy-fueled radio host who provided much comic relief. Overall the film is heavily entertaining and fun when taken for what it is.
