Crazies, The (2010)
Director: Breck Eisner
Writers: Scott Kosar, Ray Wright, and George A. Romero (1973 original)
Rated: R (violence, language)
Cast: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Penabaker
They aren’t quite zombies, but they are, well, crazy. After a plane crash, several townspeople start acting strange. In this modern update of George A. Romero’s underrated 1973 piece of the same name, Timothy Olyphant plays town Sheriff David Dutten. He and his doctor wife (Radha Mitchell) fight for survival once the outbreak progresses and the authorities start “handling” the situation. Like Romero’s original, the film not only shows the horror of an apocalyptic outbreak, but also of ourselves in the face of panic. Olyphant is superb as the man in charge of the situation and Mitchell was equally impressive. Overall a more exciting and Hollywoodized version of a true classic and a fun watch.
