Sucker Punch

I have to admit, I was looking forward to seeing Sucker Punch. It was directed by the guy who put out 300 as well as Watchmen, two visually stunning and exciting movies in my opinion. Throw in some cute girls in sexy outfits and you can’t go wrong, right? Well, sadly, one can. Oh Sucker Punch has some great eye candy and fun fantastical scenes, but the excitement from those attributes wears off fast. The film quickly turns into what feels more like a glorified video-game inspired music video; one full of dreamy electronic versions of pop songs layered over an absurd amount of high-speed camera slow-motion shots which work as a diversion to the shallow story. For me, Sucker Punch was a cool concept with nice visuals, but lacking in substance.
