Exit Through the Gift ShopWith the new year I have been thinking of new things to do on the website. I occasionally do videos on my YouTube channel showing some recent DVD and Blu-ray purchases and giving a mini-review, so I thought I’d give a go at bringing that concept in writing. The DVD/Blu-ray Roundup will recap some noteworthy recent purchases and other additions to my ever-growing collection of home video.

Blu-rays

Heat - I was glad to find Heat on Blu-ray at a steal of a price. The famous bank robbery scene and following shootout are still among the best to be filmed. You don’t see too many crime flicks with characters you actually care about, and a story that actually pays attention to things other than the shooting, even though the shooting is on target in this one.

The Sopranos – Season 1 - It’s been a while since I’ve watched The Sopranos, and have actually not seen all of the earlier seasons. Watching the start of the iconic gangster series in hi-def is a great experience. I was sucked in immediately which led me to watch the whole season in two days, now I feel the need to get the rest. This was a fantastic Christmas present :)

Black SwanBlack Swan was one of my top films last year and I could not wait to get it on Blu-ray. I waited a very long time to pick this one up. The sole reason for the delay was the seemingly stagnant high price. After I discovered the ShopSavvy application for my HTC Trophy, I was able to find it for a great price at Target. It was worth the wait…I loved re-living the beautiful and haunting flick in all its high-def glory.

DVDs

Exit Through the Gift Shop - A friend told me about this one a while back, and I’m glad he did. I ended up finding this one while in Baltimore at the awesome Sound Garden record store for a decent price. The movie is wildly entertaining, funny, exciting and also inspiring. The Oscilloscope release comes in cool Banksy-inspired packaging with a couple goodies inside including some stickers, art cards, and psychedelic star glasses.

The Game - After watching The Game on DVD recently, I realized that it had to be one of my favorite films. I haven’t seen it for some time, but after finally adding it to my collection I appreciated it on a whole new level. The unique thriller is a wild ride with a slew of twists and turns.
