Children of the Corn (2009)
Oct 16th
Rated: n/a (contains strong violence) | Review date: 16-Oct-2009
SyFy’s made-for-TV remake of the Stephen King classic Children of the Corn is essentially what one would expect for a remake. Remakes are typically frowned upon, and TV movies aren’t much different. Combining the two sounds like a sure fire failure, right? Well yes, but not totally in this case. While the movie certainly feels like a TV movie, it had some decent effects and psychologically charged sequences. I was a little disappointed there wasn’t much scariness though. There was also one scene in particular that I felt the film could have certainly More >
Haunting of Winchester House (2009)
Oct 14th
Rated: n/a (supernatural violence) | Review date: 14-Oct-2009
Haunting of Winchester House, a straight to video supernatural horror, tells a story loosely based on the real legend of the Winchester curse. The reasons for it being straight to video are clear; the dialog and acting had much room for improvement. However, that does not stop the film from being spooky. There’s plenty of jump scenes and creepy looking ghosts that follow the formula for supernatural chillers. The best part of the film was the ending, though not very original, it was a surprise and quite chilling.
More >Year One (2009)
Sep 29th
Review date: 29-Sept.-2009
Harold Ramis’ “Year One” didn’t quite receive a great response at its initial release. While it was no comedy of epic proportions, it did not fail to deliver either. The reviews and low online scores don’t really do this film justice. The duo of Jack Black and Michael Cera are non-stop hilarious. The movie is chock-full of mindless humor involving a modern take of prehistory. While it’s no movie of the year, I enjoyed this movie and got some great laughs out of it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (2009)

Review date: 26-Sept-2009
So what happens when a group of three best friends discover that time travel is possible? The answer is hilariousness. “FAQ About Time Travel” is a non-stop funny sci-fi (err, Science Fiction) adventure about three lads that discover a leak in time through the men’s restroom. I was not expecting too much from this, however it ended up being a pleasant surprise. Being a new fan of the show “The IT Crowd” it was nice to see Chris O’Dowd in another role, and having Anna Faris was a surprising choice but ended up being a perfect one. Being More >

aka “Arlen Faber”
Review date: 23-Sept-2009
Arlen Faber, played by Jeff Daniels, is an acclaimed spiritual author who’s success is derived from a book of his conversations with God. Arlen shelters himself from the public but soon enough his identity becomes known by a local book store owner (played by one of my new favorite actors, Lou Taylor Pucci) who begins to receive answers from Arlen in exchange for Arlen’s used books. Meanwhile Arlen’s love interest (played by Lauren Graham) slowly helps Arlen become truly enlightened. “The Answer Man” is the story of a man who has just as must questions himself More >
