Thanks Jason. Yeah, same here, I really was excited about this but didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I agree, Gosling is just awesome. I think basically there either needed to be more action, or more interesting story.

Nic, I totally agree with your review. I think I wanted to like this one more than I actually did. It almost came off as over-stylized to me. Not a bad film but some parts were just boring in my opinion. I'm kind of suprised so many jumped on the bandwagon for such an odd film. It seemed like it wanted to be a gritty action and arthouse film at the same time....when it fell short on both ends. Gosling is probably the best part of the film.

totally agree with you on Insidious and Stake Land, however I didn't really like Scream 4.

Never saw The Rite (although I do want to see it)

Nonetheless, good list my friend

Yeah, it could have been a little stronger in some areas. But yeah, I am getting a little sick of Burton using the same cast over and over!

Great review. I totally agree about it being slow. This one really fell flat in my opinion. Yet another example of style over substance. It was beautiful to watch on blu-ray but I was just bored. I though the casting was pretty good with the exception of Depp. His make-up was crazy and the hair and eyes was too distracting!

I hope the Depp/Burton love affrair takes a breather soon. Some of their projects are near to my heart but in recent years it has gotten quite old.

Some interesting choices here Nic. I have seen quite a lot of the films by the directors you have listed here. I think the only films by Jarmusch I have seen is Dead Man and Ghost Dog.

Also, I'm kind of suprised you dont have any Asian directors listed here.
