    Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The (2010)

Director: David Slade Writers: Melissa Rosenberg (screenplay), Stephanie Meyer (novel) Cast: Xavier Samuel, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Bryce Dallas Howard Rated: PG-13 I've made it no secret that I enjoy the Twilight movies. Yes, I am a straight male Twilight fan; deal with it. In my extensive review of the last installment, New Moon, I've pointed out why the movies work for me as...

    Peter and Vandy (2009)

Director/Writer: Jay DiPietro Rated: n/a (language) Starring: Jason Ritter, Jess Weixler, Jesse L. Martin, Traci Thoms, and Noah Bean Peter and Vandy (Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler) are two young lovers in Manhattan. The film is a classic boy meets girl tale, except being told out of sequence and following the many highs and lows that realistically exist in modern relationships. I found the film very...

    Before Sunset (2004)

Director: Richard Linklater Writers: Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, and Ethan Hawke Starring: Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy A movie like 1995's Before Sunrise was so perfect and left off so realistically that the idea of a sequel should have been something to be immediately disregarded. Luckily for us the team of Linklater, Delpy, and Hawke believed in Before Sunset and have crafted possibly the best sequel to...

Quentin Tarantino returns at full force with Inglourious Basterds, the epic war drama follow-up to Death Proof. Although this film takes a different direction than we’re used to seeing with Mr. Tarantino, everything in Inglourious Bastards is pure Q.T. From the subtle homages and generous graphic violence to the strong dialogue, this film takes all of Quentin’s best features and sets them in a different and historic time-period.

Before we dive into this work of art, let’s get one thing out of the way right off the bat: this is a fantasy film. Please read my rant on More >

Rated: PG-13 | Review date: 19-Nov-2009

TV director Steve Shill takes a stab at feature films with Obsessed, starring Beyoncé Knowles, Idris Elba, and Ali Larter. The story follows a successful man named Darek (Elba) and his wife (Knowles) along with their new child. Darek gains the attention of a new (and quite attractive) temp worker (Larter) and her infatuation unfolds. The writing, by David Loughery (Passenger 57), is mainly what drags this film down. It’s full of clichés and bad dialog that just felt a bit forced. For me, the standout of this film was Ms. Knowles. Beyoncé boasts the More >

Rated: PG-13 | Review date: 19-Nov-2009

Let’s face it, most romantic comedies these days follow a cookie-cutter approach that involves almost the same scenarios, a level of predictability, and just slight twists to make them not seem as complete rip-offs of each other. While The Proposal (directed by Anne Fletcher, 27 Dresses), starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, follows this formula for the most part, it manages to be its own movie moreso than most of its contemporaries. The story, written by Pete Chiarelli, has some parallels with movies like The Wedding Date and Green Card, but don’t let that fool you. The More >

aka Megan’s Body

Rated: R | Review date: 11-Nov-2009

Every red-blooded American male is more than familiar with the name Megan Fox. The Transformers beauty is without a doubt one of the most popular sex symbols and up-and-coming stars today. The big question is whether her popularity is solely based on her looks, or does she actually have some talent?

After watching Jennifer’s Body, directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody (Juno), the above questions still yield few answers. Ms. Fox looks glorious as ever and provides plenty of humorous dialog. However, this type of movie simply did not have enough More >

Rated: n/a (extreme gore) | Review date: 26-Oct-2009

In Tokyo, a refuse pile known as “Black Fuji” is infamous as being a burial ground for all of the city’s dark and dirty secrets. Two fire extinguisher factory employees, Fujio and Mitsuo, are caught clowning around on the job one day and accidentally murder their boss; thus disposing his body in Black Fuji which lies right behind their workplace. This particular day is the starting point of a plague resulting from the toxic chemicals in the mountain mixed with the cadavers that have long had time to react with one another. It’s More >
