“The Zombie Diaries” blends your typical zombie horror with the current P.O.V. camera style trend. If you think the name and concept sound familiar, then you’ve no doubt heard of George A. Romero’s “Diary of the Dead.” While “The Zombie Diaries” was actually made before “Diary of the Dead,” that doesn’t necessarily mean Romero ripped off writer/director team Michael Bartlett and Kevin Gates. Setting the bar for modern masked slashersExperienced makeup effects artist Robert Hall wrote and directed “Laid to Rest,” a slasher flick with a few modern twists. It’s very fitting that Hall is also an effects designer, as this movie boasts tons of very nicely executed gory special effects. Aside from the plentiful FX, the film puts a modern spin on the classic slasher.
