    Peter and Vandy (2009)

Director/Writer: Jay DiPietro Rated: n/a (language) Starring: Jason Ritter, Jess Weixler, Jesse L. Martin, Traci Thoms, and Noah Bean Peter and Vandy (Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler) are two young lovers in Manhattan. The film is a classic boy meets girl tale, except being told out of sequence and following the many highs and lows that realistically exist in modern relationships. I found the film very...

    Before Sunset (2004)

Director: Richard Linklater Writers: Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, and Ethan Hawke Starring: Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy A movie like 1995's Before Sunrise was so perfect and left off so realistically that the idea of a sequel should have been something to be immediately disregarded. Luckily for us the team of Linklater, Delpy, and Hawke believed in Before Sunset and have crafted possibly the best sequel to...

American Virgin

American Virgin (2009)

Review date: 5-Oct-2009

Clare Kilner (The Wedding Date; How to Deal) treads away from typical rom-com territory into the realm of the trendy raunchiness train with American Virgin. Take some of the best elements from movies like American Pie and Road Trip and you get American Virgin. Needless to say, the film is hardly original. The film boasts overused cliché college humor, along with lots and lots of boobs.

The premise of the film is quite funny nonetheless. It takes a satirical approach to prissy abstinence practicing good girls and their exposure to the world of debauchery. Priscilla (Jenna Dewan, Step Up; Tamara) is More >

Director Charles Roxburgh and producer/actor Matt Farley (“Monsters Marriage and Murder in Manchvegas“) team up for “Freaky Farley,” a horror/comedy with an 80′s B-movie slasher vibe. The story circles “Freaky” Farley Wilder, a loner who’s gradually become insane due to his father’s overbearing nature. Farley (Matt Farley) spends his days (when not being quizzed by his father) wandering the woods, riding his inner-tube in the creek, listening to his radio, and most of all being a Peeping Tom among the town’s hotties.

There’s hope for Farley when he meets Scarlett (Sharon Scalzo), a free spirited and curious girl writing More >

Sometimes you have to appreciate the little things…like good old fashioned zombie movies (and Twinkies)

2-October-2009

Ruben Fleischer makes his feature debut with “Zombieland,” an all out action-adventure-comedy-horror that will surely be one of the top films of 2009. The story opens with a post-apocalyptic world overrun by flesh-craving zombies. These zombies however are not the typical Romeroian zombies. Rather, we have virus-infected, fast moving zombies reminiscent of “28 Days Later.” True zombie fans need not be afraid; aside from their quickness, the makeup and mannerisms of the zombies are everything true to the mythical creatures.

Columbus (Jesse Eisenburg, “Adventureland“), a nervous loner, More >

Year One (2009)

Review date: 29-Sept.-2009

Harold Ramis’ “Year One” didn’t quite receive a great response at its initial release. While it was no comedy of epic proportions, it did not fail to deliver either. The reviews and low online scores don’t really do this film justice. The duo of Jack Black and Michael Cera are non-stop hilarious. The movie is chock-full of mindless humor involving a modern take of prehistory.  While it’s no movie of the year, I enjoyed this movie and got some great laughs out of it.

Rating: 4.5 out of 7
