Leaving Barstow (2008)

Aug 28th

Posted by Nic in Brief

Leaving Barstow gives us the true depiction of a real average teen growing up in a small town. No happy spoiled kids here. Just the real insight of a 18 year old struggling to make something of his life while dealing with a broken home. Our main character plays the part so well, you really think he’s had these experiences. This was a truly emotional journey that I’m sure many average American teens (or anyone who ever was one) can relate to on some level. A beautiful film.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)

Let’s be real here, it’s a movie based on toys, so don’t expect an epic action film. Have realistic expectations and this film will blow you away. The kids will absolutely love this, and the inner child in everyone will have a blast watching this movie. GI Joe is an entertaining experience that will not leave you bored.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Being someone who hasn’t read the books and only seen two of the other movies..I was blown away! The acting of the now young-adult actors is simply brilliant. The mood and atmosphere are stunning, and the story is good enough to keep you sitting through the long runtime. If you haven’t seen any of the other movies or read any of the books (or had no interest) you should at least give this one a try!

Not sure what else to say besides that I loved this movie! Kristen Stewart is stunning as usual, and Jesse Eisenberg is kind of like the new Michael Cera (except having testosterone). We can all probably relate to parts of this film through it’s diverse characters. Definitely one of my new favorite films of this genre.

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

I’ll be honest and say the trailer didn’t impress me, but being that its directed by Sam Raimi and got good reviews, I knew I had to watch it. It did not disappoint! Don’t be dissuaded by the PG-13 rating, though there’s not much extreme gore or heavy language, there’s plenty of grotesque and simply disturbing scenes that will have you reaching for the barf bag (you’ll never look at denture wearing grannies the same again). The story is fairly original and the lead actress is very likeable. Hopefully this film will revive good horror films, as it does an More >
