    Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The (2010)

Director: David Slade Writers: Melissa Rosenberg (screenplay), Stephanie Meyer (novel) Cast: Xavier Samuel, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Bryce Dallas Howard Rated: PG-13 I've made it no secret that I enjoy the Twilight movies. Yes, I am a straight male Twilight fan; deal with it. In my extensive review of the last installment, New Moon, I've pointed out why the movies work for me as...

    Peter and Vandy (2009)

Director/Writer: Jay DiPietro Rated: n/a (language) Starring: Jason Ritter, Jess Weixler, Jesse L. Martin, Traci Thoms, and Noah Bean Peter and Vandy (Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler) are two young lovers in Manhattan. The film is a classic boy meets girl tale, except being told out of sequence and following the many highs and lows that realistically exist in modern relationships. I found the film very...

    Before Sunset (2004)

Director: Richard Linklater Writers: Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, and Ethan Hawke Starring: Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy A movie like 1995's Before Sunrise was so perfect and left off so realistically that the idea of a sequel should have been something to be immediately disregarded. Luckily for us the team of Linklater, Delpy, and Hawke believed in Before Sunset and have crafted possibly the best sequel to...

Director: Roman Polanski Writer: Robert Harris Rated: PG-13 Cast: Ewan McGregor, Kim Cattrall, Pierce Brosnan, and Olivia Williams

Roman Polanski returns to the big screen at full force and shows us just how a mystery film is made with The Ghost Writer. Robert Harris adapted and co-wrote the screenplay with Polanski for this sleek thriller based on his own book, The Ghost. The story follows a professional ghost writer, played by Ewan McGregor, hired to complete the autobiography of former British prime minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan). Turns out, the previous ghost’s work was brought to an abrupt after his body More >

For the sixth installment of George Romero’s Dead series, Survival of the Dead moves to an island inhabited primarily by two rival clans: the O’Flynns and the Muldoons. The O’Flynns, lead by patriarch Patrick O’Flynn (Kenneth Welsh), protect the island from the undead by exterminating all the infected. On the other side we have Seamus Muldoon (Richard Fitzpatrick) and his family of religiously charged individuals bent on keeping their loved ones around, in hopes that they can adapt and co-exist once again. When the two groups clash, O’Flynn is expelled from the More >

Writer/Director: Mark Stouffer | Rated: R | Review date: 24-March-2010

Mark Stouffer’s Creature of Darkness is a science fiction monster movie much reminiscent of the Predator. It differs in that this time around, we don’t have a group of rag tag commandos, but rather college-aged friends out for a good time in the woods. The story follows Andrew (Devon Sawa) who’s suffered nightmares of a creepy and murderous alien. Andrew’s friend Heather (Fernanda Romero) convinces him to overcome his fears and join a group on an off-road adventure. It’s only a matter of time before Andrew’s nightmares start to resemble reality.

Director/writer: Steve McQueen | Rated: n/a (violence) | Review date: 20-Mar-2010

English artist Steve McQueen makes his feature film debut with Hunger, the historical drama focused around Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) prisoners during the 1980s. The prisoners in the Maze prison, where the film takes place, were denied political status and branded simply as criminals. The film is broken down into three acts, but ultimately focuses on one character and his bold acts taken for a greater good. Though the story revolves around political turmoil, it would be a great mistake to avoid this movie for that purpose, as the More >
