J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek is the breakout action hit of 2009 that aimed to bring new life into an old favorite. So does it deliver, or is it just another piece of Hollywood big-budget over-the-top action garbage? Well, contrary to what only a handful of naysayers may think, Star Trek certainly delivers. While I personally watched the series as a child, I did not follow it religiously. Even so, the story in this film was easy to get into and all of the classic characters brought back some memories. The cast is just pure gold, and each More >

Quentin Tarantino returns at full force with Inglourious Basterds, the epic war drama follow-up to Death Proof. Although this film takes a different direction than we’re used to seeing with Mr. Tarantino, everything in Inglourious Bastards is pure Q.T. From the subtle homages and generous graphic violence to the strong dialogue, this film takes all of Quentin’s best features and sets them in a different and historic time-period.
Before we dive into this work of art, let’s get one thing out of the way right off the bat: this is a fantasy film. Please read my rant on More >

In Tokyo, a refuse pile known as “Black Fuji” is infamous as being a burial ground for all of the city’s dark and dirty secrets. Two fire extinguisher factory employees, Fujio and Mitsuo, are caught clowning around on the job one day and accidentally murder their boss; thus disposing his body in Black Fuji which lies right behind their workplace. This particular day is the starting point of a plague resulting from the toxic chemicals in the mountain mixed with the cadavers that have long had time to react with one another. It’s More >

If the idea of a group of co-eds in their 20s going on a ski trip, only to find that it’s been the host of some dead Nazis with unfinished business, sounds like a great idea for a movie, you’d be right. Dead snow combines classic slasher horror, humor, and plenty of gratuitous gore. I mean, how can a movie not be good with a tagline like “Ein! Zwei! Die!”?
The story is fresh with plenty of hilarious moments. It takes place More >
Sometimes you have to appreciate the little things…like good old fashioned zombie movies (and Twinkies)

Ruben Fleischer makes his feature debut with “Zombieland,” an all out action-adventure-comedy-horror that will surely be one of the top films of 2009. The story opens with a post-apocalyptic world overrun by flesh-craving zombies. These zombies however are not the typical Romeroian zombies. Rather, we have virus-infected, fast moving zombies reminiscent of “28 Days Later.” True zombie fans need not be afraid; aside from their quickness, the makeup and mannerisms of the zombies are everything true to the mythical creatures.
