Let’s face it, most romantic comedies these days follow a cookie-cutter approach that involves almost the same scenarios, a level of predictability, and just slight twists to make them not seem as complete rip-offs of each other. While The Proposal (directed by Anne Fletcher, 27 Dresses), starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, follows this formula for the most part, it manages to be its own movie moreso than most of its contemporaries. “The Zombie Diaries” blends your typical zombie horror with the current P.O.V. camera style trend. If you think the name and concept sound familiar, then you’ve no doubt heard of George A. Romero’s “Diary of the Dead.” While “The Zombie Diaries” was actually made before “Diary of the Dead,” that doesn’t necessarily mean Romero ripped off writer/director team Michael Bartlett and Kevin Gates. George A. Romero’s “Martin” is a rare gem in the horror world. It’s highly original concept plays well between genres, making it hard to classify. With a shoestring budget and a cast primarily made up of unknowns, “Martin” is a thought-provoking and thorough character study that’s rarely been rivaled to this day.

Lars von Trier’s “Antichrist” is a nightmarish piece of art following only two characters. Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg share the screen in this twisted dark tale about a couple losing their child, forcing the mother into a great deal of grief. Dafoe plays the therapist husband, who decides he can treat his wife’s grief better than any doctor.
